4 Must Do Activities to Grow Your “Social Media” Marketing Garden

Well boys and girls, the summer is over and it’s time for me to reflect on my efforts to be earth mother again this year. Yes, you see somewhere deep inside I have this urge to plow the land and make it produce food and such that will be healthy for my family and others who cross my doorstep. (Halo appears over my head now) I know, I know! I really don’t have time! Nonetheless, this year I decided to try to plant tomatoes using the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter. Guess what, it worked. I still had to invest a lot of time with watering because tomatoes are about 85% water and my balcony is about 100 degrees or more all summer. In the end, though, I grew about 50 good-sized tomatoes enjoyed by all. We just ate the last ones today!

So, what does this have to do with social media marketing? Well, while I was standing out there on the balcony in the sweltering heat, I began to think about how marketing is a lot like gardening and that social media marketing is not different. You still have to do the same things to figure out where to start and how to make it grow. Below is my side-by-side comparison of the ways that growing something, no matter what it is, takes a planned, consistent effort.

Gardening Social Media

1. Plan

Decide what you want to grow then start getting the information you need to grow it successfully.

This is market research. Listen to what others are saying about the type of plants you want to grow. What do they say about the crop you have now? Where will you start?

2. Prepare

Decide where you are in the gardening cycle. What kind of fruit or vegetable do you want? Do you know what you want to plant? Are you ready to start planting it, i.e. soil ready, seeds sown, right gardening tools, etc.

Decide where you are in the marketing cycle then uses tactics that coincide with your marketing strategy to either fill the pipeline, follow-up, get presentations, or close sales. What social media tools will you need —blog, twitter, etc?

3. Exposure

Give your plants the type of sun exposure needed for the type of plant it is. My tomatoes only needed about 6 hours of full sun every day unless it was extremely hot.

Exposure in marketing is all about letting people know who you are and what you are offering. No matter what you sell, you will need to avoid hiding it under a bush. The other people in the social media realm are like the sun for your campaigns. Be seen everywhere that makes sense for what you are trying to grow.

4. Monitor

If you plant it, the fruits will grow but only if you do not neglect it. Everyday do a little something to make sure your garden is healthy and strong.

Now that you have your social media marketing growing like wildfire, you still have plenty of work to do. You have to inspect what you expect. Are you using an analytic tool to measure how well your campaign is going?

So, you see, I didn’t waste my time dealing with that tomato growing plastic bag all summer. LOL! It helped me to stay on track with my marketing efforts after all.

Well, I’m finally back at work and wow has it been a whirlwind! Now that the dust has settled I can share my good news. We are so proud to introduce to the world our lovely little granddaughter.

The Princess Is In The House!

Alena Rose Robinson, otherwise known as the Princess of Woodland Pointe Drive, arrived on Sunday, August 23 at 12:59am. She weighed a mere 4lbs 13ozs having been born 4 weeks early. However, all is well with mother and baby girl!

I hope you won’t mind me being a typcial GiGi (that’s my grandmother name!). I promise to keep the pictures to a minimum but I couldn’t help it this time.

I’m open to all grandparenting advice available, so don’t hold back. What is the one thing you have learned as a parent dealing with grands or as a grand yourself that has helped you be the best possible?
